Motherhood
Posted by film and TV actor at 4:45 PMDirector: Katherine Dieckmann
Stars: Uma Thurman, Anthony Edwards, Minnie Driver (Full Cast)
Studio: Freestyle Releasing
The Plot: In New Yorker, blogger/parent Eliza Welsh (Thurman) desperately tries to manage to significant events: preparations for her daughter's sixth birthday party and the completion of an essay that might land for her a lucrative new job.
THE BUZZ: I will always remember Motherhood as the first movie I ever walked out of while attending a film festival. According to a few reviews I've read, the impetuses which caused me to grab my bag and split -- the shrill tone and classist pseudo-comedy -- rarely let up. This movie, along with others such as the recent Post Grad, should remind filmmakers of all stripes that audiences really do not need to see the harshness of our daily minutiae play out as broad comedy. And anyone who truly loves Uma knows this is so not her genre.
